Take a visit to Puerto Rico!

So, why should you visit Puerto Rico?

First off the island has a rich history with a very diverse culture set.

The island is home to many different kinds of cultures since it was never really a home to one specific group of people with Spanish influence being the most predominant. Architecture within their cities have been heavily influenced by Spanish design and, unsurprisingly, the most predominant language is Spanish. Aside from Spanish influence there is also quite a bit of influence from the Taino, one of the many groups to have called the island home, as well as African slaves. The island is also home to many museums and has quite a few tours.

If history bores you death there's plenty of sights and locations to visit. The island, as expected, has many beaches you could visit, with one of the more popular ones being Flamenco Beach which is considered one of the best beaches in the world with its white sand and clear water. Now if you're more interested in seeing something a little less ordinary there's also Playa Negra, a beach with black sand. Aside from the beaches there are a plethora of outdoor activities on the island ranging from horseback riding to cave exploring and even festivals which occur rather often. The most anticipated festival is Fiestas de la Calle San Sebastián, which lasts from Wednesday to Sunday on the third week of January, where in the day artisans fill the streets and at night the city of Old San Juan comes to life with music and people celebrating.

Interested? Well, if you are there are a few things you should know before you go visit this wonderful island. If you're an american citizen then a passport isn't required since its a United States commonwealth and you can also use your US dollars there as well. Learning a bit of Spanish would help with getting around also, even if in tourist areas people do tend to be able to speak English. And for those of you who get cold easily you might want to bring something light to carry around just in case. While the island doesn't get cold like other countries, due to being a tropical island, the temperatures can vary slightly and the ocean breeze can become quite chilled. One big thing to keep in mind and be considerate of when visiting is that a lot of the island is still recovering from the recent hurricane and some tourist sites might not be open due to this.

Aside from some areas being potentially closed, the island still has a lot to offer in its history, people, and culture. The beaches are gorgeous, the history is interesting, and the culture is so diverse that there is very little to not be interested in just from simply moving about the island and seeing what it has to offer.

  1. I can tell you're knowledgable about the island which is very good! I would suggest proofreading it as there were a couple mistakes. I don't know how else to explain it but the post feels a bit passive aggressive. Also I wouldn't say that Puerto Rico was /never/ a home to one specific group as colonialism there is relatively recent. I'd instead maybe go into more detail about the natives who first inhabited the island.

  2. The content itself was very good as it hit key points and the small details included would have been good to know if this actually was for a travel guide brochure of some sort.
If you choose Puerto Rico for your third blog post it would be great to hear more about the Taino.
I would say overall your word choice could be improved as, like Vanessa said, there is a bit of a negative tone to the post.
